This workshop outlines the pathway for translating research outputs into market-ready products and successful startups within the university ecosystem. It emphasizes that commercialization is the process of bringing innovative products or services to the market to create societal and economic impact. The journey begins with research and development (TRL 3) and progresses through proof of concept, prototype development, field validation, intellectual property (IP) protection, licensing, and ultimately entrepreneurship (TRL 9). Researchers are encouraged to conduct market-driven research and disclose inventions through formal channels to secure patents and safeguard their innovations.
The presentation highlights the critical role of industry engagement through prospecting, pitching, negotiations, and licensing agreements to facilitate technology transfer from laboratories to the marketplace. The Centre of Innovation and Consultation supports researchers throughout this process by providing commercialization services, startup guidance, funding opportunities, networking platforms, and co-working spaces. Various grants and entrepreneurial initiatives are introduced to nurture innovation and develop entrepreneurial talent among students and researchers. Ultimately, the presentation stresses that successful commercialization requires perseverance, collaboration, strategic planning, and passion, enabling research innovations to generate real-world impact and contribute to national economic development.
